In prior years I'd be all over the prospects for Walt Disney Studios to get movie awards and statuettes and Oscars and all that.

Not anymore.  Lack of interest by members.

I'll just note this for 2012 Oscars for 2011 movies:  Disney is super passed-by this year.

Disney now distributes DreamWorks movies, so "The Help" and "War Horse" get the nod for several prestigious Oscar categories.

However as "Disney fans" we look to the type of movies that made Disney, and in recent years Pixar which Disney now owns, famous.  Family movies.  Animated movies.  And the music score and a Best Song nomination or two.  Pixie dusted movies.  Maybe someday classic movies. Used to be that Disney movies regularly made the prestigious annual Oscar nomination list.  But....

It's those types of Disney movies that are very skimpy in Oscar nominations this year.  From other studios, yes.  From Disney this year, not so much.

No Disney movies are nominated for Best Animated Feature this year.  Nope, not "Cars 2".

Only one song, one from "The Muppets" is nominated for Best Song.  And it's one of only two songs nominated for Best Song this year.  Go figure.

One Best Animated Short Film is from Pixar, at least a little something Disney-Pixar to cheer for: "La Luna", Enrico Casarosa, director (Pixar Animation Studios).

Other than "The Help" and "War Horse" distributed by Disney for DreamWorks, and the above....that's it!  That's all there is, there ain't no more. No "Pirates of the Caribbean 4", either.

Scroll around at the link and peruse the 2012 Oscar nominees for 2011 movies.  Other than "The Help" and "War Horse" it's meager going for Disney about nominations, but as they always say "maybe next year"....

Consequently I'm not "covering" who wins what in late February 2012 for the Oscar telecast.  Oscar fans and fans of whatever Disney films or distributes can tune in or follow who wins on the show or do Google News searches the day after the awards are handed out.  The link is to the official organization that hands out Oscars, so click the link after Oscars are handed out in late February 2012 and explore the site for their list of winners.  I do wish Disney luck !

It is pathetic and a reflection of the amount of support for the animation dept. that nothing is in the best animated catagory. Disney was founded on animation, and as such that part of the company deserves better.
