Briefly: "Brave" Prevails!
#1 US Domestic box office on it's opening weekend, $66,739,000.
Adding in overseas box office brings that total up to: $80,239,000
Beats two week old "Madagascar 3" now #2 in the US by 3 : 1, beats also opening, much touted "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" now #3 on it's Opening Weekend by 4 : 1.
How does "Brave" compare to competing studios' animated "Lorax" and "Madagascar 3" also released in 2012? Check it out here:
How does "Brave" compare to some other Pixar films? Check it out here, compare "Brave" to "Finding Nemo" "Cars" "Ratatouille" "WALL-E" and "Up":
Great analysis by Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood.... why didn't "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" do better if those who read the book loved it and looked forward to the movie? Read both why "Brave" did so well (surprisingly universal appeal, not just to girls ! ) and why AL:VH did a lot less well.... If you remember non-Disney movie "Cowboys vs. Aliens" from a year or two ago, had Ron Howard direct, Harrison Ford was in it as a star, and box office-wise it flunked out.... You may say you're tired of prequels, sequels, threequels and reboots, but audiences in general apparently aren't and they stayed away from what sounded incredulous and too weird and went with a proven track record sure bet (that paid off well for Disney-Pixar with a great Opening Weekend ) : Pixar.
