Unofficial Polynesian Resort Websites & More Recommended Tiki/Polynesian Websites

We're glad that you're reading the Disney Echo's Polynesian Resort forum and we want to pass along these other great websites of interest to Polynesian Resort fans:

Disney EchoEar Steve Seifert "Tikiman" deserves this top-of-the-list spot for his top-rated Tikiman's Unofficial Disney's Polynesian Resort Website, the very best place on the net to find out about the Polynesian Resort at WDW

Disney EchoEar Deb Wills "DebWills" deserves this spot near the top of the list for her faMOUSE and excellent AllEarsNet.com website with all you need to know about Walt Disney World including resort information and menus from the Polynesian Resort. Disney EchoEars recommend her website highly -- even in many replies here on the Disney Echo -- use it often.

Disney EchoEar (and co-modEARator on the Disney Echo) Cara Goldsbury's website is all about touring Walt Disney World in style by staying in the most luxurious places like Disney's Polynesian Resort, dining at the best restaurants and having a top-drawer entertainment experience. Home of her book "Cara Goldsbury's Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World." This is a Disney EchoEar recommended website

Disney EchoEar (and co-modEARator on the Disney Echo) Scott Thomas runs the Planning Strategy Calculator for Disney Reservations - Home of the PS* Calculator which is recommended for planning your Polynesian Resort vacations

Disney Pix
is dedicated to Disney and the joy it has brought to all the people that visit their parks. It has great pictures of Disney Characters, the Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, and pictures you'll enjoy of Disney's Polynesian Resort as well.

DisneyWorld - The Unofficial Online Guide
has "information to help plan your vacation to Walt Disney World. Disney Resorts, parks, discount tickets, dining, photos, maps & more!" Check out their Polynesian Resort information

Dizneyworld
is Michael C. Flint's visual tribute to the Walt Disney World Resort, including great pictures of the Polynesian Resort from 1996 to 2002.

Konakai.com
is your "personal Rapa Nui on the vast digital Pacific" for a "leisurely stroll on the linky beaches of Konakai.com"

LaughingPlace.com
is where Doobie and Rebekah Moseley are "connecting Disney fans across the world" on their great website which includes frequent updates at WDW and the Polynesian Resort

Magictrips
is for "making your dreams come true!" on its web pages and describes the Polynesian Resort and all of Walt Disney World and its "beauty, diversity, majesty, and creativity"

Maitiki.com
is all about Tikis and they should know -- they've created them for Walt Disney World!

Mike's Tiki Mugs & More Gallery
- has hundreds of Tiki and Polynesian Pop items for you to see, but none of them are for sale, just for you to look at and enjoy. Be sure to enter "Disney" into his search box and you'll be drooling at the pictures which appear!

MousePlanet
has information about everything in the world about Disney, including the Polynesian Resort

Mousesavers
is the website run by Disney fans that is the place to check and see if you can save on your next Polynesian Resort vacation

Oceanic Arts

"The DIS"
describes itself as "the internet's largest unofficial on-line guide to Walt Disney World" and many Polynesian Resort fans post there regularly

Tiki Farm
- Purveyors of Polynesian Pop Culture and manufacturers of fine Tiki collectibles. Be sure to check out their Tiki Theatre! Highly recommended!!

Tikiland
- Enter through the Tiki doors and find "the place the gods created for themselves," with Tiki-style art,
photos of Trader Vic's in Munich, and lots of Tikis

The Tiki Room
is your "one-stop shop for all things tiki"...

...and Tiki Central
is where to find "the latest Tiki news, a meeting place for Tiki people, an UberAlbum for Photos, and Calendar Of Events for the greatest Tiki Lounge parties in the world."

Widen Your World
shows the early history of Walt Disney World and the Polynesian Resort in a "restful haven." Go back in time through a delightful mix of pictures, postcards and pleasurable memories, from the earliest planning stages when it was simply the "South Seas" resort, through its opening on October 1, 1971 as "Disney's Polynesian Village Resort," when Guests could stay from $29 to $44 a night, to when the infamous Polynesian "wave machine" provided real surfing waves, the "South Seas Luau" was presented on a small open-air stage right on the beach and included the Disney Character or King Leonidas from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the Papeete Bay Verandah restaurant served breakfast, lunch and dinner with nightly floor shows, and other resort places included the Coral Isle Coffee Shop, Captain Cook's Hideaway Lounge, the Tangaroa Terrace restaurant, the Polynesian Princess, Robinson Crusoe Esq., Village Drugs & Sundries, Trader Jack's Grog Hut, News From Civilization. the Village Florist, the Pretty Wahine Beauty Shop, the Alii Nui Barber Shop, the King Kamehameha Concierge, and for fun Guests enjoyed the resort's first themed swimming pool complete with a hidden grotto, waterfalls and a slide built into the "volcanic" rock, the circular Bob-A-Round boats each complete with its own stereo sound system, eight Guests per voyage sailed the Seven Seas Lagoon in the 40-foot Polynesian War Canoe, and the romantic 65-foot long Chinese junk known as the "Eastern Winds," a real boat with deck, cabin lounge areas, staterooms and "lovely serving hostesses."

There are some Polynesian resort views on my site, both in the pre-opening postcards (including a view of the unbuilt concept for the Polynesian that inclued a central tower)

http://www.bigbrian-nc.com/wdw-pc03.htm

also there are some nice views from a polynesian resort postcard booklet:
http://www.bigbrian-nc.com/wdw-pc19.htm
two of the views on that page feature some of the retired ships of the WDW navy the Ports O' Call side-wheeler, and the East Winds a Chinese "junk" style vessel.

"Tikiman" is a former Moderator on Disney Echo of the Polynesian Resort Forum.  People who love the Polynesian appreciate the depth of his knowledge, his sources, and dedication to helping others also enjoy their stays at this beautiful WDW resort that faces Magic Kingdom on the monorail line around Bay Lake.  Before, during and since he was on our site as Moderator he maintained his own fan and information site solely about the Polynesian.  Tikiman left Disney Echo years ago, we wish him well always and appreciate him and thank him for his participation here always.  We wish his fan following who joined Disney Echo to follow his news and get his advice all the best as well.  Thank you to Tikiman and his followers for their time here, it was special…. And Aloha always!

Tikiman's VERY active on Facebook and still has his own fan website about the Poly. He hasn't gone away at all.

In case you're still a fan of staying at the Polynesian Resort, remember Tikiman while here on Disney Echo, want to reconnect and want to know Tikiman's latest news about the Poly :

The links above to Tikiman's current website are outdated.

Instead :

Disney Echo Members and Guests interested in the Polynesian Resort at WDW might want to click this and then bookmark it as the new, current Tikiman fan website about that resort :

http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/

And find Tikiman on Facebook.  Then "Like" his fan page in order to receive news feeds and Notifications from him about the latest Poly news and information.

https://www.facebook.com/Tikimanpages

I noticed when I visited Disney Echo today that some Guests to our site were exploring Polynesian Resort Topics in this Forum.

There are renovations taking place in 2013 and the future and recent past at this resort.  Disney wants to put yet another Disney Vacation Club timeshare resort at the Poly.

Since our site is so much slower now, fewer active members log on anymore, fewer Polynesian specific members log on to post travel stories and experiences at the hotel anymore, and Tikiman himself is long gone.  Disney Echo members, visitors and Guests need to know that almost everything in this Forum is now OLD INFORMATION.

So if you want ongoing CURRENT INFORMATION, or tantalizing rumors, or news that only Tikiman can get through his sources….  Your best bet, frankly, is to bookmark his website and "Like" his Facebook page and prioritize his Facebook Notifications highly so you're sure to see them.

Current Information is what you need to rely on to plan your stay at this resort, dining, shows, knowing about changes, etc. accurately.

Just referring you to where you can get the latest and best info about this aspect of a WDW vacation.

  :pixiedust:

For the few lurkers and drive-by registered members and Guests who visit Disney Echo anymore….

Former Polynesian Resort Forum Moderator "Tikiman", who has deep sources at that WDW resort, is apparently announcing as of October 8, 2013 he's stepping back.  He cites his website is outdated, no new photos, hard to go through and keep it all updated, newsy, etc.

Sounds familiar to Rich and I. Rich and I don't have time anymore either to keep Disney Echo fresh, newsy, updated, and to be available 24/7 to answer the few questions that do get posted.

I completely understand Tikiman's explanation since we live some of that about our general purpose Disney fan site ourselves.  Websites aren't as visited anymore as social media places like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. are.  Those sites send out auto-generated feeds and notifications, and when you're a mom-and-pop fan site it's hard with family raising and jobs to keep up with it all.

Read on:

http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/news/229-a-great-resource

Tikiman refers his fan folks to Len Testa's Touring Plans website (associated with the Unofficial Guide to WDW by Bob Sehlinger published paper guidebook) for those who want guidance about the Polynesian Resort.

And when he can get to it Tikiman will post to his Facebook unofficial fan page about the Poly.  But that's when he gets time.  Don't bet the farm on regular posting by him.

I would separately point you to the following websites as supplemental resources, joust look up Polynesian Resort :

--Deb Will's AllEarsNet.Com fan site for WDW, it's onsite resorts and the Polynesian's features and amenities

--Orlando Sentinel "The Daily Disney" blog on the newspaper's website

--Zagat Dining Guide for Orlando, whatever the most recently published year would be

--Mouse Planet, MiceAge and The DIS Boards

--The guidebook Passporter and their discussion boards regarding WDW and their on-site hotels.

http://www.passporter.com

--TripAdvisor.com as a way to get postings from people who've stayed there and see room reviews

--The usual search engines and News search engines like Bing, Yahoo and Google.  Try the regular sites then the News sites of those.

Caution…..

You'll see lots of rumors in chat forums and on juicy Disney Rumors fan sites.  The only sure bet is if/when Disney itself issues a press release and mainstream news media carries news of Disney's news release.  Otherwise it's just gossip and rumors.  The key is you search on Yahoo, Bing and/or Google to "confirm rumors" (keyword "confirm") and nothing pops up.  Sure facts and publicly announced facts always will pop up in a search engine search and be corroborated.  If lots of references pop up, it's likely a fact you can bet the farm on.  If hardly anything is there, or on a lone site you never heard of, it's likely only gossip or rumor, unfounded, not proven, not substantiated.  Tantalizing but not necessarily true or gonna happen yet.  If you can "find it" in a news article in a bona fide news media source you've heard of, then it's a fact you can count on.  Walk away from and ignore the juicy gossip and rumors 'til a bona fide news media source confirms it.

Wishing Tikiman "Thanks!"    for his years of service to the online Disney fan community, especially the niche community of people who like to stay at WDW's Polynesian Resort.  He brought his fan base to Disney Echo for awhile and it made our site quite lively !  We'll always be thankful for that special time he and his followers were here, and for ongoing letting folks online know about one of the great fun places to stay at WDW along the monorail line to Magic Kingdom.

I'd take Tikiman's suggestions at his site plus the ones I posted, and plan yourself a great time !

  :lapulapu:  :tiki:  :monorailwdw:  :pixiedust:

One last observation :  "It's a theme park, not a museum".  The Polynesian as a long-time resort is a favorite and fun monorail resort leading folks to the Magic Kingdom, a luau dinner show, great fine dining and family dining, a child care center for WDW guests to use, and the famous tropical adult drink the Lapu Lapu.  But Disney has every right, since Disney owns the place, to remodel, renovate, tear some things down and build new things up, take out the familiar and beloved, put in new and unfamiliar new things, freshen up and update the place to current tourism and hotel hospitality industry standards, etc.  "It's a theme park, not a museum."  Disney in so doing may make some longtime fans of the Poly mad… In reading Tikiman lately he's none too pleased.  But "it's a theme park, not a museum".  Sad but true, true but sad, change is tough, but change comes to us all, particularly a beloved WDW onsite major resort.  Let it play out, reserve judgement, then see how the new changes look.  In the meantime there will be construction there, and the old romantic tropical feel will give way to construction walls and muss and fuss and dust and "pardon our progress for your future enjoyment" signs on those construction walls.  Bear with it, or stay somewhere else 'til it's over.

Last observation :  While Poly construction takes place, ultimately it's Disney you're doing hotel business with.  Contact Disney directly, such as at Polynesian Resort Guest Services, for any questions or expressing opinions to Disney you may wish to offer Disney for help, or venting.  Pick up the phone and call Disney directly, they are happy to help answer.  Then take it from there.  And again, keep open minds about the changes to come, they might have a way of being nice and you enjoy that hotel in a whole new way once the construction is over and the place has a grand reopening someday.

Good luck to Tikiman, though, and again "Thanks !"  :pixiedust:

So much for "retiring"....

Tikiman closed down his former website.  Put out word he was aiming to “leave”.  Short-lived….

He started a new website!  So he hasn’t gone away after all.

Here it is, plus look him up on Facebook for receiving his unofficial updates about construction and remodeling progress at Disney's Polynesian Resort plus the Disney Vacation Club Polynesian Village vacation time share units under construction there.

Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/Tikimanpages

Web:

http://www.tikimanpages.com/poly/

On his website Tikiman even has his own merchandise!

Check it out if you’re aspiring to stay at WDW’s Polynesian Resort especially while construction is going on, and then later when the construction is finished.  “Know before you go!”

The Facebook link in the Quote Box still works.  The Polynesian Resort is remodeling and updating in a major way as Disney Vacation Club begins selling memberships there and the whole place updates away from the 1970's.  The Facebook site of Tikiman's is daily filled with photos, news, and readers Comments.  If you were a fan of the Polynesian when Disney Echo was more active, surely you remember Tikiman and will want to follow his news updates, daily, as the Resort prepares to remove construction equipment and concealing walls.
