Yoo Hoo and aloha, Brooke / mypalsim!

Welcome to the Polynesian Resort message forum and the Disney Echo, Brooke!

Yes, you're right -- if you stay concierge this won't matter at all. If you stay lagoon view non-concierge it also won't matter. But if you stay garden view non-concierge then when you check in you'll be shown on a map right then where your room is located (or if you are arriving before the room is ready, they'll show you where the building is located but not where your room is -- in that case make sure they know you don't want a monorail view).

When you are showed the location on the map, you can then ask if anything else is available if you're not happy with where they've put you. When I checked in last October, I wasn't assigned to the Fiji marina side that I requested, but they offered 3 alternates to me.

Brooke, here's a pair of Disney EchoEars for you with my thanks for joining the fun here!

Would you like me to help you put a vacation countdown clock in your signature?

P.S.: I just saw that you replied about the countdown clock in the time it took me to write the above! LOL

Tell me what time and what date in July your vacation starts, as well as a short descriptive phrase and I'll do it for you -- or you can find the instructions for the vacation countdown clock if you press the Help button above.

Don’t worry , we are all like family here. You can say you wouldn’t like that view but I will tell you the monorail is not right outside your window. The two buildings that can see the monorail have it across the garden but either way there are so many other rooms with garden views that are of other things other than the monorail. If you don’t want a monorail view than try not to be put in Rarotonga or Aotearoa. If you are in concierge there will be no problem.

Aloha and Mahalo for joining us.

Steve

Here you can see where the monorail is from the building if you were curious.

The monorail is a distance away, and the plantings offer some buffer as well.  It's possible you'd be "aware" of the monorail passing, but it's not as if it's a freight train.

Calling all Polynesian experts!
We are wondering how long to plan on for travel time....from the Polynesian to MGM by bus? Or by our rental car? We are dining at Mama Melsrose's at 5:00pm.
Thanks for the help!

Leave your Poly room at 4:15 pm if going by car.  Leave at 4 pm if by Disney bus.  The length of time is 1) Walking distances from your Poly room to car or bus stop, 2) If taking the bus, waiting for the bus, 3) If driving, you have to find a place to park at D-MGM then walk to and wait for a tram, 4) After you get off tram or bus you have to have your stuff checked by security then enter the gates and you're at the mercy of how many are in line ahead of you, 5) You still have to walk to Mama Melrose's.  It's not like leaving home and driving, fighting a bit of traffic, then parking right there near the door.  The walking times at WDW can really take up a longer period of time than you'd think.  If you're there too early you have that much time to unwind and settle in and soak up atmosphere, or take a drink at the lounge.  Better to be a bit too early than rushing it.  I hope this helps, but others might know of precise times to figure on that might answer your question even better.

Carol has hit it dead on.... personally, if it were me, I would use the rental car..... that time of day, the buses will sometimes stop at other Disney resorts (not a strong chance of a direct bus to MGM), and you would make better time in your car..... good luck!

And if you don't have a rental car, just take a taxi -- they're not that expensive for trips inside WDW and they're always available right there as you exit the front entrance of Great Ceremonial House.

I concur with Rich.  I was meeting my family at MGM for a PS at H&V, but had to wait for the Kids Nite Out sitter to arrive.  I took a cab because I knew I would be crunched for time.  They drop you off way closer than the parking lot.  Cost me about $15 with generous tip, I think.  I was there in plenty of time.

Just get on any major highway, and eventually it will dead-end in a Disney parking area large enough to have its own climate, populated by large nomadic families who have been trying to find their cars since the Carter administration.
