Does anybody (hey, TikiMan!;) know if the music played on the grounds of the Poly is available on some sort of soundtrack?  If so, where can I get it?  Thanks!

PassPorter WDW says that the music is available on CD in at least one of the shops at the Polynesian Resort.

When I was there in July '03, I asked at every single shop and was told it didn't exist!!!   Do they do over the phone orders and shipping?  Or do I have to wait 209 more days?

My source was what Jennifer & Dave wrote in PassPorter WDW -- Perhaps go to PassPorter.com and ask them on the forum that the two of them run what they meant by that? Perhaps they are referring to CDs of generic Hawaiian style music rather than actual soundtracks of what is played at the Polynesian, but that's just a guess.

The music used on the grounds is a collection from different albums that has been used for years. There is no copy of the collection available anywhere other than getting the different albums that the music is on and making your own CD. I have one from the Polynesian that has 2 of the songs you hear and it was purchased at “News from Civilization” store.

Aloha

Steve

K, next question...does anybody know the names/artists of the songs so I can search for them?  I'd love to compile my own "soundtrack."  Thanks!  :)

Well unless you are an expert on Hawaiian music it may be difficult to pick out all the artists. All the songs are classic Hawaiian songs and not written by the artists that you hear doing them (if that makes sense) so you could find the songs on many CDs by many artists. To find the exact artist and song that the Polynesian is using is something I would not try to do myself but I wish you luck. If I was there to listen to them all I could name the song but in most cases I could not tell you who is doing it. I know a few are:

Blue Hawaii
Ke Kali Nei Au
Moon of Manakoora
Kalele (plays over and over at the Polynesian)
If I look at my video tape and listen to the music on the ground I can remember a few more but that is it for now.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks TikiMan!

There's this one song that I LOVED, they seemed to play it a  lot, it was very simple, one or two instruments, and seemed to be the same intervals played on different chords.  I'd sing it for ya, but I'm kind of on the interenet, and I don't think it would work.  ;)

I have a wonderful CD that I purchased shortly after my last trip to the Polynesian, called "The Seductive Sounds of Hawaii" by Nani Wolfgramm and His Islanders. I could swear that they play that CD at the Poly ("Nani Waimea" seems to ring a bell), but even if I'm wrong, it's still a great listen! You can find both of his CD's at amazon.com. Just search in popular music for Nani Wolfgramm.

This information was provided to me by a CM involved in the music production end of WDW.  It is a complete list of all the music played on the Polynesian Resort loop.  As you can see, the list of CDs is extensive and some are very, very difficult to locate.  It does give a good list of the song titles though and these are readily available on a variety of CDs.  Did I impress you Steve?    ;)

CD
Memories of Hawaii series one by Henry Allen

   songs: Mapuana- Lani Sang
              Sweet Leilani
              Hawaiian Souvenir
              Ke Kali Nei Au
              Moon of Manakoora
              Akaka Falls
              South Sea
              Beyond the Reef
              Kalele- "Swinging"

CD
Ohta-San- Ka Mea Ho'okani 'Ukulele

songs: Waikiki Beach
           Blue Lei
           Royal Hawaiian Hotel
           Pua Lokelau
           Poki's Blues
           Kainoa
           Kaulana O Hilo Hanakahi
           Po'ipu I Kaua' i
           My Yellow Ginger Lei
           Beautiful Kanani
           Manuela Boy
           Kanpai

CD
Waikiki's Greatest Hits, Now! by Roland Cazimero

songs:

Sweet Leilani
Lovely Hula Hands

CD

Full CD Tracks

CD
Hawaii Calls Presents Kalei Bridges

songs:
Latitu
Ho'i Mai Ku'uipo
Ku'u Pua Lehua
Kipu'upu'u
Ka Loke
Moani Ke 'Ala

Oops!  I almost forgot to add--you can NOT purchase this loop--Disney holds the rights to it and it has not, according to the music CM, nor will not be sold. You can try and duplicate it based upon the information given, but they aren't selling it (or giving it away either).
