You are reading and I hope participating in this Topic: in the Characters Forum of Disney Echo.  (Participation and reading is always voluntary, including volunteering not to, and it's OK. :) )

Mickey and Minnie Mouse as Disney characters were introduced to the public in a charming little cartoon called "Steamboat Willie", which premiered in theatres November 18, 1928.

Which means Saturday, November 18, 2006 falls on Mickey and Minnie Mouse's 78th birthday!

I figured since they are both "Disney characters" it would be fitting and easiest to find a birthday tribute to the fabulous pair in the Disney Characters Forum.

If you want to offer your birthday wishes, or any thoughts or perspectives as Mickey and Minnie continue on in pop culture or the realm of Disney fanship, simply hit "Reply" and post away.

78 Years, wow!  Isn't a generation about 30 years or so?  If so then it's at least two or three generations, if not more, that Mickey, Minnie, and other charming Disney characters in cartoons and longer length feature animation, live action, theme parks and TV, singers who make records and CDs, books and book authors, and Walt and those who came after him have entertained millions worldwide and continue to do so today.

"It all started with a mouse..."  Actually it all started when Walt Disney lost the rights to a character names Oswald the Rabbit beccause Walt was young, eager, and naive in the ways of business management and protecting his creations.  Walt applied the lessons he learned when he created Mickey Mouse, and the rest as they say is history.

Sometimes here on Disney Echo we like instituting fun little spontaneous "Do Something Disney Days".  It means to "do something Disney" on a designated day, all Disney Echo Ears in the world together, so we can be unified as a social gathering site.  If we can't be together face to face, at least we can "do something Disney" all on the same day.

So lets all "Do Something Disney" in honor of Mickey and Minnie's 78th birthday on Saturday, November 18, 2006.

It'll be a fun little thing for your children and you, and give a lift to your day.

What you do is entirely up to you...  Watch a Mickey and Minnie cartoon ("Steamboat Willie" especially appropriate), or wear a Disney item of apparel or jewelry (including wristwatches with Mickey's arms as the "hands"), "search"ing our website in the Disney Cooking/Recipes Forum or your home Disney cookbook collection or the Internet and preparing some nice Disney meal or treat to dine on at home.  Trip planning for a Disney vacation would definitely work.  Reliving fond memories of Disney vacations past, especially if you took photos with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, that would work too.  Reading about Walt Disney's life (new Neal Gabler book about that as of 10/31/06 this year, by the way) or listening to Disney CDs, doing anything "Disney"-esque would definitely work.  Doesn't have to be all day or for a long time, or "embarrassing" in public, or expensive or elaborate.  You tailor it to you.  You can bake a cake at home, or cupcakes or muffins, put candles on it, and sing "Happy birthday to Mickey and Minnie Mouse" and that would work out, too.  You get the idea...  You make it big, fun, silly, momentous, simple and endearing, all to suit your tastes and your family's interests.

But let's "Do Something Disney Day" on November 18, 2006 to celebrate Mickey and Minnie's birthday!

Post what you do here!

Or just wish the 'toons a great day!

Happy birthday to you (cha cha cha! )
Happy birthday to you (cha cha cha! )
Happy birthday dear Mickey and Minnie Mouse....
Happy birthday to you (cha cha cha! )
And many more!  Cha!  Cha!  Cha!

Try

http://www.nffc.org

The National Fantasy Fan Club for Disneyana Enthusiasts is a worldwide non-profit club of Disney collectors.  There is a way on their website to find out how to contact their leadership, and you can ask them for pointers for cruising the collectibles circuit.  If you can get out to California in January or July, the NFFC's mini-convention is usually in January and their major national convention is in July, near Anaheim, and both feature a Show and Sale of Disney memorabilia collectors who buy, sell, trade among themselves.  They are extremely knowledgable.  Their monthly newsletter has classified ads, too.  Oh, and their conventions have Disney speakers and celebrities come out, too!  Click on "Chapters" and you'll see there are regional chapters all over the place, check if one is near you, too.

Otherwise asking about specific items of memorabilia belongs in the Disney Collectibles and SouvenEARS Forum. :)  But I would definitely try the NFFC.  After that if all else fails try eBay or find a copy of the Tomart Disneyana catalog and see if what you're seeking is in there.
