Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

This topic was started years ago but is still the place to discuss all things related to Christmastime at Walt Disney World including Magic Kingdom's Very Merry Christmas Party, the WDW Christmas Day Parade, and Christmas-related events at all the WDW theme parks.

The original message started this way...

Walt Disney World Cast Members who would like to be in the audience for the tapings of the 2004 WDW Christmas Day Parade can sign up now at www.lightshiptv.com/parade. Details:

Cast Members can help spread holiday magic as audience members in the 2004 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade tapings Dec. 3-5. This annual television tradition, hosted by Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, will air on Dec. 25 and feature the Christmas Day parade as well as holiday festivities around the Walt Disney World Resort. Interested participants can sign up by visiting www.lightshiptv.com/parade on the Internet.

All WDW Guests can buy tickets for the 2004 MVMCP events (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, held in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom as a special after-hours, extra admission event). This information is from the official  Walt Disney World: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party website:

A winter wonderland of holiday fun awaits guests on 12 nights in 2004:
  • Sunday, November 28, 2004
  • Tuesday, November 30, 2004
  • Thursday, December 2, 2004
  • Friday, December 3, 2004: SOLD OUT
  • Sunday, December 5, 2004
  • Tuesday, December 7, 2004
  • Thursday, December 9, 2004
  • Friday, December 10, 2004: SOLD OUT
  • Sunday, December 12, 2004
  • Tuesday, December 14, 2004
  • Thursday, December 16, 2004
  • Friday, December 17, 2004: SOLD OUT

Note: Some Guests have found tickets available on TicketMaster though, even for the sold-out dates (but there is an extra TicketMaster fee when buying tickets through that service).

Unwrap a special holiday gift for the entire family. Join Mickey, Santa, Goofy and all their pals for the most magical holiday celebration of year at "the merriest place on earth." Sample tasty treats as you enjoy the enchanting Very Merry Christmas Parade and the special holiday fireworks. The very merry weather report even forecasts snow on Main Street, U.S.A., so be sure to "bundle up."

Tips & Fun Facts
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade runs twice nightly. It's often easier to snag a prime viewing location for the second running. Frontierland® is a great location for viewing the parade, but even though it is more crowded at Main Street USA it seems more Christmasy in my opinion.

Advance tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party are $36.95 plus tax for guests ages 10 and above, $26.95 plus tax for guests ages 3-9. (Children under 3 are admitted at no charge.) Tickets on the day of each party are $42.95 plus tax for guests ages 10 and above, $32.95 plus tax for guests ages 3-9.

Additional Information:
  • Separate admission is required (meaning just because you're in the Magic Kingdom that day, you'll still need a separate admission ticket for that night's party.) Tickets valid during event hours only. Not included with any other ticket media.
  • Entertainment is subject to change.
  • To purchase tickets call (407)-W-DISNEY or call your travel agent. You can also use the toll-free phone numbers listed in the Disney Echo's Disney Dining & Priority Seating message forum.

:santa:

On the nights when MVMCP is being held, the Magic Kingdom closes at 5 pm and if you're there that day you'll need to leave the park and then re-enter when it reopens for the party. The party ends at midnight, just as the fun stopped for Cinderella.
:)

Get to the park early and have your group photo taken as soon as you can, while the lines are shorter and you're looking less mussed up from riding the attractions.
;)

There are two showings of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade during MVMCP -- at 8:15 pm & 10:45 pm -- and obviously no fireworks for regular park Guests (since the park closes at 5 pm those nights) but you'll be able to see the Wishes fireworks spectacular at 9:15 pm.

You'll also want to be in Tomorrowland for Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas in the Galaxy Palace Theatre for one of the scheduled shows at 6:15, 7:15, 8:15, 9:30 & 10:30 pm -- and in Frontierland for the Country Bears Christmas edition of their show. If you can fit in another show (and it isn't too cold out) you also might want to see the Kids of the Kingdom along with Mickey and the gang performing Celebrate the Seasons in front of Cinderalla Castle that night at 7:00, 9:30 pm & midnight (a great way to close out the party, as the park closes at midnight).

I don't know how you'll fit all the shows in, but there's also Belle's Enchanted Christmas going on at 7:30, 8:40, 9:30, 10:20 & 11:10 pm in the Fantasyland Pavillion -- as well as Santa's Snowflake Special at the Fairytale Garden in Fantasyland at 7:25, 8:05, 8:55, 10:15 & 11:30 pm for holiday storytelling. Last but not least, the Lake Howell Holiday Band will be performing at the Tomorrowland Stage at 6:45, 7:45 & 9:00 pm.

But wait, there's more! Click here or the picture on the right to see a large MVMCP map! Most of the Magic Kingdom attractions, shops and restaurants will be open, including:

Note that if you plan to park in the Magic Kingdom parking lot you'll be charged for parking even if you have a WDW Annual Pass which normally lets you park at WDW theme parks for free... but this is a special event and is an exception to that free parking perk. Tip: If you have parked your car in the MK parking lot earlier in the day and left it there, then AP-holders will not be charged, of course.

I have never been to WDW during Christmas time. The pictures look beautiful! The only thing I wouldn't like about going to WDW during Christmas (I could deal with the crowds) is the warm weather and lack of snow. I wish Disney could create "snow" all over the parks and resorts. THis may sound crazy to a lot of you. I've been brought up on snowy, cold Christmases and can't imagine it any different. Those who have gone at this time do love it though. :hearts:

Maggie,

Thanks for sharing your great pictures!  Christmastime at WDW looks so wonderful.  I saw a special about the decorating and would love to see it in person.

You will be able to find snow at the Disney-MGM Studios during the Osbourne Lights display, gently falling down (not the permanent fake snow they have on parts of International Street (formerly New York Street). There's also fall that falls down gently on you along Main Street USA during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

As for the warm weather, we've frozen our lil' mouse tails off many times when we've visited there in December!

Rich is right, it does "snow" at WDW.... And as far as the cold, yeah, it can be that way, but when Christyn and I went in Dec. '02, it was 10-15 degrees ABOVE normal... we came out of the light show into the NY street and snow falling and it was almost 80 degrees at 7:30 pm!!!!!

I didn't realize they had "snow" at Christmas time. Okay, Rich...I have a feeling your version of "Cold": may be different than mine, considering where we come from.  :)

Well, I was born and raised on Long Island, New York -- but moved to the warmer climate of the humid swamps of Louisiana to get away from the frigid north, so I see your point, Sandy. But it truly was very, very cold on some of our December trips to WDW!
LOL

Some day we may try it...but I heard the first two weeks of December you can still appreciate the Christmas scenery and not have crowds. Have you or anyone gone at this time?  :mickey:

Yes! That is actually our favorite time to be at WDW.

But we haven't been there at that time since Michael started school. There aren't any vacations at his school then and we don't want to pull him out of classes.
