Known at Disney theme parks as "Captain Eo" in a 3-D movie shown at Disneyland and Walt Disney World at the height of his fame, the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson is dead at age 50, within the last hour at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.  Apparent cardiac arrest but unconfirmed.  He was found by paramedics to not be breathing.

Still breaking.

Jackson was also known as a huge Disney fan, would visit the parks around the world and word was he'd collect Disney memorabilia at auctions.

Of course Michael Jackson's music career and many personal and legal problems, his plastic surgeries, personality quirks, fame and notoreity are well known worldwide.

A shock.  May he rest in peace.

This has been the strangest day....first Farrah, now Michael Jackson. I'm not one that's starstruck, but it's very sad, nontheless.

Very shocking indeed.  Very very shocking.  I am thinking about his kids and I hope that they will be okay.

Link to Orlando Sentinel online 6/25/09 article about how Michael Jackson spent a lot of time in Orlando FL at WDW:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/orl-mic....1.story

First hit song was "I Want You Back" with the Jackson Five in 1969, 30 years ago this year.  The song Jackson sang and danced for Disney in "Captain EO" was "Just Another Part of Me".  Movie co-starred Angelica Huston and I think was directed by Francis Ford Coppola (who directed "The Godfather" movies).

Yes, I too feel for his kids, but I fear in the end he was not much of a father figure. I think the sadness I feel is more of a sadness for someone who lived a very tragic, troubled life. I don't believe that he handled fame at such a young age well, and lived out that lost childhood in his adult life. I hope that he is a lesson for those who wish to exploit young children for Hollywood fame that they need to be sure to concentrate on the child and not the money.

Yes, he was the director, although he would probably prefer to forget that particular endeavour.

All the shock, the tributes, the fan reactions...  Reminds me of when John Lennon died in December 1980.  As big a level of that now as then.

Of course the national media is running a lot of news and reaction to Michael Jackson's death.  Autopsy results are to be announced today and toxicology results within a few weeks, the estate reportedly is still plagued with crushing debt and continuing legal problems, children are orphaned now, and the 50-week concert series due to have started in July in London has $86 million in advance sold out ticket sales to face returning to purchasers.

In 1984 The Walt Disney Company was facing hostile takeover, the parks had fallen to low attendance.  Michael Eisner was brought in as CEO to revitalize the parks and make them relevant to contemporary audiences and guests.  Eisner used his past show business and movie contacts from Paramount to see what he could do.  He made a deal with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola and Michael Jackson, then at the height of Jackson's adult success... And the result was a new park attraction, a 3-D movie called "Captain EO".

To recall the Disney-Michael Jackson connection, here are some YouTube links related to "Captain EO".

This was produced for Disney theme parks not long after Michael Eisner became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 1984 to revitalize attendance at Disney theme parks.  Originally shown in 3-D so think in terms of those traditional "3-D effects" as you view the clips.  Co-starring Angelica Huston with Dick Shawn, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, screenplay by George Lucas.

Eric, I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. Michael seemed to be very sensitive and unable to cope with the life he was given. On top of that, he was unable to have a real childhood. Poor thing, he was always searching for happiness. I hope he's found the Neverland he was always looking for!
