On Wednesday December 25, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on ABC is
Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade
The Annual Christmas Day Parade broadcast
We recorded this on DVR and watched when we had the chance. We promptly deleted, agreeing it was one of the worser versions of this annual seasonal telecast from Disney in a while.
Unfortunately other than frequent reruns of old or updated Travel Channel shows on Destination America the ABC "Disney Parks Christmas Parade" is what passes for totally new and updated parks-related programming nowadays.
It hit the high points, like FastPass Plus, now routine had former Travel Channel hostess Samantha Brown on to extol the pleasures of Disney traveling and Aulani Disney resort/DVC time share in Hawaii, and overtly had their hosts plug the annual Disney travel planning DVD.
To me, diving in-out of the kitchen while preparing our dinner, it sounded like watching a show in real time but it was Disney which was in fast forward or speed cue. Disney or the contracted production company must feel that airing this show is like watching paint dry or grass grow, so . So they do quick cuts, speeded up chatting, even the Samantha Brown segments sounded like she was hurried up. Don't spend too long on one thing, keep changing it keep changing it! Faster, keep changing it!!!!
I would peek in-out of the kitchen at the TV and felt exhausted by this show, living life in the shows own fast track.
Got to the end, and mutual family question we ask each other "Keep? Or delete?" and it was unanimous "Delete, please, now!"
Rich ordered a Parks DVD recently and we watched it, and it's at a more laid back and enjoyable pace than this annual Christmas telecast was.
On a different note: Once upon a time there was a Disney Channel star named Britney Spears "New Mickey Mouse Club" who went on to pop success, then melted down, then trying to build her career back up. Today the former Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus "Hannah Montana" is making headlines worldwide for trying to out-crude Madonna and Lady Gaga on live pop music telecasts which have clips of her go viral. Disney Channel is becoming a "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!" tweens network in my opinion. Disney Channel also had a mega hit with "High School Musical" TV movie, and the young female star of that once she left Disney also went down "adult" paths in her career.
Seeing/listening to Disney Channel performers on ABC's Christmas show on floats and stages and the street, singing their wares, just make me feel cynical rather than heartened that there's a "safe" channel I can trust a young person to be able to watch with minimal adult supervision of content. Based on past Disney Channel super stars paths post-Disney Channel, there's a decent chance once they hit age 18 and start exercising early adult rights that they'll "go slut" like others before them.
So this show, annually with the potential to e such an "upper" and family event, kinda was in 2013, but mostly just didn't quite hit the mark. If anyone logs on and reads this and did record it, take a look and enjoy. Then decide.
