The Magical Music of Walt Disney, Original Motion Picture Sound Tracks with Full Color Book

Woot by Wootbot on April 11, 2009 at 12:00 AM

What, no “Macho Duck?”

Back in our day, music was on big, floppy plastic CDs called “records.”

Good gravy, are there three more wonderful words in English than “new old stock?” Just hearing or reading them is enough to send a thrill through the whole body. On the list of pleasure-producing phrases, “new old stock” ranks up there with “the governor’s granted a stay,” or “it’s benign,” or “this round’s on the house.”

Of course, not everybody thinks so, right? Sure, probably even right now there are Wooters looking at this very page, thinking “WTF, records? What is this, 1984? And they’re Disney records? What am I, six?”

Man, as far as these platters are concerned, you might be six. The air inside their packaging is from 1978. Seriously, these tracks are like a time-capsule message the Little-Kid You sent into the future for the Grown-Up You. (How was LKY supposed to know that GUY wouldn’t have a record player?)

LKY picked a nice present from the past, nostalgia-wise: Four long-playing vinyl records featuring all the songs and sounds of the Disney pictures you loved back when. This is not a new remaster. It’s not a collection of cover versions from all your favorite contemporary country recording artists. Hanna Montana makes no appearance on any track. (Shoot, she wasn’t even born until 14 years after these records came out.)

No, this is the real deal genuine article: 30-year-old records, available brand new.

30 years! Here’s how old that is: it even includes selections from Song of the South — which has since fallen out of favor as the result of, uh… certain changing cultural dynamics.

The records also come with a handsome, full-color deluxe 52-page book, which will give you something with which to amuse yourself while you try to track down a wooter in your area who bought a record player from us. (The search will be a lot shorter if that wooter is you.)

Thanks for posting this! I thought it was cool, too, so I posted it as well -- not noticing until later that you had already posted it.

Now I need to see if I have that old record player in the attic... ;)

 :D

Believe it or not, record players are still sold, try Best Buy or local high end audio-video stores (in New Orleans try Alterman Audio).  Some people collect old records, or have childhood or parents' old records.  Hip Hop DJ's play records, so they gotta get 'em from somewhere.  Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul and other types of thrift stores sell used players.
